At the beginning of July, Sports Academy were delighted to play host to visiting professional soccer team Ajax Cape Town on their pre-season tour in George.

Sports Academy helped plan a pre-season training camp for the visiting Ajax which included friendly fixtures against local sides and a larger fundraising match at the Outeniqua Stadium against the NMMU Madibaz who travelled through from PE for the occasion. This is was the first time that the people of George got to experience a professional football match in their town and Ajax didn’t disappoint winning the match 4-0.

We also got the opportunity to present about the work of Sports Academy at a post-match dinner function hosted by the Mayor of George and attended by both teams and members of the SWD Sports Council.

The Sports Academy players were delighted to attend a coaching clinic held by Roger De Sa and the other Ajax coaches as part of their stay and some of our boys even got the opportunity to play against their soccer heroes in a training match held at NMMU Saasveld playing fields.

The primary schools who we work with also benefited from Ajaxs’ visit to George. They held a training clinic at Thyolora Primary for the benefit of both Thyolora and Thembalethu Primary pupils, where the Ajax players and coaches got alongside the young players and spent time showing them soccer skills and drills.

We enjoying working alongside the Ajax team and staff and hope to partner with them again in the future.
We will certainly be cheering them on in the upcoming PSL this year!
