Sports Academy George held a girls day on 12 April 2014 for all those who play netball in the academy. The girls had a fun packed day, where they had their nails painted and with some of them even putting make-up on for the first time. We tried to make the girls feel beautiful inside and out with beauty stations, photo booths, a clothes shop and guest speakers delivering messages of God’s love for them.

We had 3 ladies from Patria church as guest speakers who shared their stories and experiences about life. The first speaker shared her experiences and the importance of not giving away their purity to just anyone who passes by and having respect for themselves. The second speaker taught them about freedom and no matter how many mistakes we make in life in life, God forgive and forgets. Lastly one lady explained how God cleanses, purifies and is proud of you and more than anything he simply loves you.

The most shocking part for the girls was the picture they were shown of a model before and after her photo was edited. The girls realised that the media industry edits what people actually look like therefore we cannot compare ourselves to such images. The message we tried to convey was that God created them in His own image, a perfect image and our Netball coach gave the thought that wouldn’t it have being boring if everyone on earth looked the same? This changed the way the girls viewed themselves. One of the girls said ‘I learned that it doesn’t matter what anyone has got to say about me, because God created us and he loves us all just the way we are. In Psalm 139:14 it says: ‘You are fearfully and wonderfully made.’

To all the ladies that helped thank you, thank you for cleansing their souls of sadness, and filling it with love. Thank you for making them realise their uniqueness and how special they are. Not forgetting to thank each and every person who donated something for the day, words cannot express how much your support is appreciated and how much it meant to all of the girls.
