Day 1:

The Sports Academy netball team is now in Portstewart, Northern Ireland. After setting off on Sunday morning at 2am we finally arrived into Dublin at 8am yesterday. The day was spent traveling up to Portstewart and then relaxing and eating! The girls were exhausted after the long trip, but have now had a good nights sleep in preparation for the match against Derry today.

Every day of the tour the girls will write a blog entry about their experiences, Thandie, the Netball Team’s Goal Keeper has written the blog entry below:

I’m feeling so excited being here, because it’s my first time visiting another country. It’s quite an experience for me because this is a trip of a lifetime. I will never forget this trip because I am having fun with my teammates and I would like to thank my coaches for seeing the potential in me. I have worked very hard and I was committed, I even broke my leg playing netball in a netball league in George, South Africa. I will never stop playing netball because I see the potential in me. Now that I am here in Northern Ireland I believe my team will win and make South Africa proud.

Day 2:

Well the first official day of the tour kicked off well today! We visited two schools Oakgrove Integrated College and St Cecilia’s which are both in Derry. We attended their morning assembly, were a couple of the girls spoke and the team all sang the South African national anthem. Then the girls got to join in with some of the classes before we had lunch. The girls even got show off their South African dance moves in a dance class at St Cecilia’s, the pupils were very impressed! After lunch we headed over to the community sports centre where we played the first match of the tour. It took a while for the team to settle and find their rhythm and they found themselves down 17-10 at half time. However, a whole new team stepped on court in the second half determined to show everyone what they were made of, with the game finishing with us winning 23-20. The girls went crazy, they were so happy to win their first match on tour!

Here is a message from LeiLei (GK):

Well the day started very well, going to the school and meeting the girls at the school. It was very nice being with them. I’m so excited about the new kit that we got, its very nice and it fits us very well. The food that we ate today was very nice and the people were nice for cooking it for us. I think its getting better and better being here.
