Rooicats Update

The girls netball has had a great start to the year with a new enthusiasm to suss out the new coach & check out what training will be like this year. There have been good numbers turning out for training, which has been a mix of fitness and skill sessions, (with most of the girls preferring the skill sessions)!

Our first match against Sea Girls went amazingly well, bringing home our first win of the season. The second game of the day saw a reshuffle of player positions and took a few minutes to settle into their positions, which saw our opposition Herbertsdale take the lead. The half time team talk was a chance to make small adjustments and along with some fresh legs brought new life to the team and saw the girls come from behind to win their second match!

Low on numbers due to school exams and cancelled training due to heavy rain, we went through to our matches this weekend with just 7 players, and the imminent possibility that both Coach Cat and manager / coach Danel would have to play if there were any injuries! Thankfully, this was not necessary as the girls played great and brought home a third victory of 26 to 7 versus an old rival Sonsky. Our second match of the day, Uniondale was conceded to us as the team had not pitched up….the girls believing they were scared to come and play the match!

The Rooicats are off on tour next month to play in an U17 tournament in Cape Town, and the girls are waiting with baited breath to hear who has been selected for the squad. With the u19 boys having come home with a trophy from their tournament in Port Elizabeth the pressure is on for the ladies to perform well also. Keep an eye on the blog/Facebook page for updates!
