As a part of the Exodus Explore 360 evening groups that we have been running, we were encouraged to do an ‘Act of Service’ to give back to the community. When the Sports Academy students were asked what they would like to do, they unanimously voted to go to the Old Age home. They said they would like to bless the old people with sweets and flowers and pray for those who wanted prayer. To help with buying the sweets and flowers, some of our students contributed their own pocket money which was really encouraging.

Fifteen of our students came that day and they were brilliant! Nerves were high as we all gathered in a circle to pray before going into the Old Age Home. For many it was their first time going into an Old Age Home, let alone praying for a total stranger. It was amazing to see them running around making sure that each resident got a flower and a prayer if they wanted it. They even sang an impromptu song in Xhosa.

We were told that 50% of the residents at the Old Age Home had no family to come to visit them. As we were leaving one lady called to us from the window, she had been so blessed by our students and kept thanking us over and over. We are very proud of their willingness to give back and the maturity that they showed during the visit. We hope to do more outreaches like this in the future.
