On the 17th March, Sports Academy George travelled to Port Elizabeth to take part in the under 16 and under 19 Powerade Soccer Challenge hosted by Victoria Park High School.
The SAG Tigers would play six games in two days against schools from all over South Africa including Selbourne College (East London), Brebner High (Blomfontein) and Fairmont (Cape Town).
The under 16’s played Lawson High School in the final, and were tied 1-1 after extra time. The young boys held their nerve to win the penalty shoot out 3-2, Athabile Sonkqayi scoring the decisive spot kick after a great save from Wongalethu Wezi.

The under 19’s reached their final without conceding a single goal throughout the tournament. They faced the much fancied local favourites Walmar High School from Port Elizabeth. However, right from the first whistle SAG Tigers dominated territory and possession. The winning goal came early in the second half when, man of the match Luzuko Sabelisiva, latched onto a loose ball in the box to drive home from close range to seal the double for Sports Academy.

As well as winning the under 16 and under 19 Championships the tournament organizers recognised some individual performances from the SAG Tigers. Under 16 captain, Akhona Nokepeyi was awarded Player of the Tournament and in the under 19 section, Emmanuel Mathenjwa picked up Goalkeeper of the Tournament and Luzuko Sabelisiva Player of the Tournament for some outstanding performances.
